You know what a horrible Excuse for a break up is?
“I don’t want to hurt you anymore.” All I can say is “wtf is that?” Seriously if you didn’t want to you would do something to make this shit work. Breaking up with someone is hurting them, probably way worst than the gradual hurt your doing them. You can stop hurting them in the relationship but by giving up and running away? You could cause some permanent damage depending on how close you guys were. This really just seems like a way out, rather than a reason out.
